NUESTRA HISTORIA

EN 2009 seven faith-based organizations joined forces to create the Vickery Meadow Neighborhood Alliance. The coalition was formed to address the community’s most pressing challenge: food insecurity. To meet this need, the Alliance established a food pantry staffed entirely by volunteers. At that time, neighbors received food assistance once per month.

EN 2012 the food pantry moved to its current location, 8448 Walnut Hill Lane. This move allowed the organization to pair its services with the St. Katharine Drexel Community Closet, offering a more comprehensive range of support. During this period, Temple Emanu-El began providing fresh produce from their garden, enhancing the nutritional quality of the pantry’s offerings.

EN 2016 NorthPark Presbyterian joined the Alliance, significantly expanding the pantry’s offerings. They provided fresh tomatoes, goods from the Reverse Food Truck, and consistent deliveries of bread, milk, and eggs. During this time, the Alliance served neighbors within the 75231 and 75243 zip codes.

EN 2018 The Alliance expanded its reach further, opening services to neighbors in the 75230 and 75238 zip codes to meet the growing needs of the broader community.

IN 2020 through 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vickery Meadow Food Pantry and St. Katharine Drexel Community Closet remained open to serve the community. To ensure safety, the service model shifted; neighbors no longer shopped inside. Instead they received pre-boxed food items, including a choice of frozen protein, milk, eggs, bread, and fresh produce.

Hygiene products and diapers continue to be distributed based on availability. Due to the low cost of items sourced from the North Texas Food Bank, neighbors become eligible to receive food once a week rather than once a month.

During this time, neighbors from all zip codes are served.

IN 2023 the Vickery Meadow Food Pantry and St. Katharine Drexel Community Closet experienced a surge in the number of neighbors visiting the pantry. In the first 10 months of the year, the pantry served 69% more neighbors. In November, a decision is made to serve neighbors who live in one of four zip codes: 75231, 75230, 75238 and 75243.

IN 2024 – Present  From 2024 through the present the pantry serves over 600 families a week. Despite significant cuts in federal funding to food banks, the Vickery Meadow Food Pantry remains committed to providing high quality, nutritious food. The pantry is honored to be of service to the neighbors of the greater Vickery Meadow community.
