Open House Vickery Meadow Neighborhood Alliance-10th Anniversary at Walnut Hill Location

With great joy on Tuesday, October 18, an Open House was held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Vickery Meadow Neighborhood Alliance Food Pantry and Clothes Closet at its current location.  A number of sponsors and volunteers joined the festivities.

The first VMNA pantry was located in a very small, dark apartment located in The Ivy apartment complex. For two years, the pantry served neighbors in need of food, but the size and location impeded the ability to expand the choice of foods and limited the number of neighbors that could be served.

With help from the VMNA Alliance sponsors, a new location was found. In 2012, the pantry moved to the current location on Walnut Hill Lane. The size quadrupled, the refrigeration and freezer capacity greatly increased, and best of all, the VMNA Food Pantry paired its services with the Ladies of Charity’s Clothes Closet. Now, neighbors of the Vickery Meadow area needed only to go to one location for help with food and clothing.

On Tuesday, volunteers who work on specific days had the opportunity to meet one another and enjoy some food and refreshment. Our sponsors toured the facility and learned how the pantry is managing to help feed and clothe 350+ families each week.

In addition, Rose Raya from the office of Senator Nathan Johnson honored the Vickery Meadow Food Pantry and Clothes Closet with a State Resolution. Within the Resolution, State Senator Johnson wrote:

“WHEREAS, VMNA is helping to provide area residents with the support and the resources they need to build a brighter future, and the organization is indeed deserving of recognition for its invaluable contributions; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the Vickery Meadow Neighborhood Alliance be honored on the occasion of its 10th anniversary at its current location and that all those associated with alliance be extended sincere best wishes for continued success with their important work.”

VMNA is greatly indebted to its eight faith-based sponsors and volunteers that help make the pantry and clothes closet a reality. With such a great team of sponsors and volunteers, VMNA hopes to continue to support the neighbors of the Greater Vickery Meadow community for years to come.
